Stories are powerful.

They have the ability to heal or hinder, nourish or deplete, constrict or expand us.

The stories we create about our own experiences, relationships, health, bodies, money, spirituality, work, etc. can be particularly impactful to how we engage or disengage in our lives.

In a world in which chronic stress is widespread, it is essential to our well-being that we look into our stories and choose to transform the ones that have become unhelpful, hurtful, and disempowering, as part of our deep self-care.

It is natural to for our minds to form disempowered stories when we are stressed. And what can result is a pattern of disconnection, numbing out, frustration, disillusionment, self-criticism, self-sabotage - especially when we are not aware of what is woven through or hidden below the surface of those stories. There is an intimate interplay between the stories and the unconscious beliefs that inform them. These beliefs are formed throughout our lived experience, and they lie hidden in our bodies and become woven tightly into the fabric of our being. They operate as automatic “programs” - default settings that cause us to act and think in ways that keep us in repetitive, unhelpful patterns.

But, it doesn't have to be this way.
These stories can be rewritten, by you as the author!

Have you read Brene Brown's book Rising Strong? In it she talks about rewriting our stories and the “SFD” (shitty first draft) - getting the story out of the head and onto paper so that we have something "tangible" to work with. Doing this gives us an up-close and personal look into how our minds move into automatic beliefs that can cause us unnecessary stress and suffering.

In this class you will be doing something very similar - but with paint added!

Becoming conscious of what stories and beliefs are limiting us in our lives is a powerful form of self-preservation. With increased self-awareness we create an opening for empowered, authentic, soul-full living, and we begin to experience deeper connections to ourselves, our loved ones, our peers/colleagues, the collective, and the world.

When we deny the story, it defines us. When we own the story, we can write a brave new ending.
— Brene Brown
